Week 1: Abraham, The Father of Faith
S: Heb 11:6 – 8 NLT
“And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him. It was by faith that Noah built a large boat to save his family from the flood. He obeyed God, who warned him about things that had never happened before. By his faith Noah condemned the rest of the world, and he received the righteousness that comes by faith. It was by faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him to leave home and go to another land that God would give him as his inheritance. He went without knowing where he was going.”
O: God called Abraham to leave home and go to another land. God promised him a land for his inheritance but he left not knowing where he was going. What is interesting is that required a level of trust; Abraham knowing that God has his best interests at heart. Another example is when God told Abraham to sacrifice his son, something he had waited his whole life for.
Although it would have been difficult and even perplexing, he did it anyway because he knew that if God was saying it, it was in his best interests. When God promised Abraham and said that his seed would be like stars… and he believed in the Lord and his belief in the Lord was counted to him for righteousness. If we look back at verse 6 we will see that without faith it is impossible to please God, and he rewards those that sincerely seek him. .
A: Take some time to ask yourself this question: “What has God told me to do that I am or might be stalling on at the moment?” write down your answers and add one action you can take now. Just like Abraham you do not need to have the full picture, you just need to believe God.
P: Help me to believe you more and to take action on what you have asked me to do. Lord this moment I let go of fear and doubt and embrace faith.
