Week 38 Praise God with Understanding

S: Psalm 47:7 (NKJV)

For God is the King of all the earth; Sing praises with understanding.

O: To truly appreciate someone or something, it is always much stronger when you are able to specifically identify their qualities, which ones you are appreciating in particular and why. By doing this, you go beyond general and even thoughtless commendations, to deep and meaningful praise and adulation. As with most if not all relationships, it is no different when it comes to God. Even in His multiple facets, along our journey of life and salvation we tend to experience specific sides of God. Today’s scripture instructs us to sing God’s praises and to do it with understanding. So in our personal and corporate times of worship this calls for us to be authentic and highly intentional with our praise. As musicians and worship leaders, our song choices for instance and the words we speak must be well thought out from a place of understanding who God is through our relationship with Him and a reflection of what He is doing in our spaces.

A: Take stock of the God you know and have experienced and spend time, through reading the Word, prayer and personal worship and reflection to unearth a deeper understanding of Him.

P: Lord, I praise you as the inexhaustible God and I hunger for a richer relationship with and understanding of you. As I come to know you more, may my heart be filled with songs of revelation of who you are.
