Week 13: Mental Health and Prayer

S: Phil 4:6-7 (New Living Translation)

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”

‭‭O: The power of prayer. Prayer is a stress reliever and the scripture confirms this by telling us that we should not worry about anything but rather pray about everything. Today, there is a very high awareness of mental health issues. It affects people of every age, class and creed and we cannot ignore the power of prayer and how it can help us keep our minds healthy. The scripture encourages candid, simple communication with God. He is a loving Father and is available to hear us at any point. We have an audience of One whenever we need it.  As a creative, we can and should pray about anything that concerns us, our financial stability, breaking through a creative block or seeking inspiration, feeling afraid of a big event, remembering lyrics, lines and even cues. With prayer we can tell him about every detail that makes up our everyday life.

A: Every time you feel stressed, try talking to God first instead of reaching for the phone to call a friend, or distracting yourself with social media.

P: Lord, thank you for being closer than I could ever imagine. In this moment and with this prayer I turn to you, I choose not to worry, but rather to commune with you; to listen to, trust and believe in you and your word.
