Week 12: Meditating in the word of God
S: Joshua 1: 8
“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you[a] shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”
O: To be prosperous or enjoy good success we should be meditating in the word both day and night because in it lies everything we need to both navigate and succeed through the storms of life. The scripture says we should meditate in the word. The essence of meditation is focus, but you harness its power by repetition. For instance, think about how you score a song, or internalise a set list; it’s by focus and repetition until you know it inside out. Taking it one step further, the phrase ‘to meditate in’ carries a deeper connotation than simply to meditate on. This suggests that the word of God is a place we should reside in, and a big enough place we can get lost in. Bringing it all together, the scripture is telling us that to succeed at life we need to meditate in the word of God which is to Read.Focus.Repeat.
A: Pick a time of the day when you are most focused and read the word of God.
P: Lord, thank you for your word and all that you put in it to help me succeed and prosper. Help me cultivate a deeper desire for your word.
