Week 50 - Mind Your Business

S: Thessalonians 4:11 (NLT)

Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we instructed you before

O: This week let’s focus on minding our OWN business! It is funny that some of the dictionary’s definitions of ’Minding’ are:-
  • To attend to
  • Have care or oversight of
  • To apply oneself to
If we practiced any one or all of the three definitions above, our lives and results would make more noise than we would ever need to!
Typically, when we say or hear “mind your business”, it is a rebuke especially when one is being nosy or intrusive into what other people are doing. While that is a valid point, the adage goes way beyond just those moments.
The phrase is not just a warning to nosy people but for us to pay attention to our Work. Our Work being that thing God created us to execute on His behalf here on earth. Where we place our attention is one of the most valuable parts of who we are. Our attention should be expensive and we should only spend it on things of value. Qualifying the things we value is definitely an important part of the process for us to be able to direct our attention to those things. What are you minding?

A: Start paying attention to what you are and have been paying attention to, then modify as appropriate.

P: Lord in a world filled with many distractions, please help me to stay focused and pay attention to the key things in my life that matter.
