Week 27: Don’t Give Up! Keep on Watering

S: Galatians 6:9

“So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.”

O: What is so fascinating about this scripture is that God is showing us that it is not always going to be or-dare I say-meant to be smooth sailing. In fact, there are many other similar references throughout the bible. For example “Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning” (Psalm 30 vs 5). Just because you are doing the right thing does not mean you will get the promised results straight away! It’s almost like your decision is only the first step and your commitment will be tested in how long you are willing to persist until the fruits start to show. Along the way you will get frustrated and tired! These feelings are valid and can easily lead you to give up prematurely. The scriptures are filled with the prayers and cries of frustrated men and women of faith. So you are in good company!  More than anything, let this scripture remind and encourage you not to give up or get tired of doing what is good. Why? Because, there is a right or optimal time when harvest comes. You will only get to see, experience and enjoy this harvest if you persist in spite of what your feelings may be telling you. Your journey is made up of many parts whether it be consistently spending time in God’s word, praying, exercising, eating healthily, cultivating relationships or practicing your instrument amongst many other things. These activities all have the potential to yield great results if we consistently keep at it and don’t give up!

A: Identify ONE thing you are struggling with doing consistently but deep down you know is the right thing that will yield great results if you persist. Write it down (ideally somewhere you can see it everyday) and make a decision to commit to that thing. Choose an accountability partner or network to help you stay on track!

P: Lord, I need your help. In my time of weakness you make me strong. As I continue on this journey of commitment and persistence please strengthen my resolve to follow through till the end.
