Week 34 Don’t Be Intimidated

S: Deut 31:6 (MSG)

“Be strong. Take courage. Don’t be intimidated. Don’t give them a second thought because God, your God, is striding ahead of you. He’s right there with you. He won’t let you down; He won’t leave you.”

O: As creatives, performance anxiety is not a strange concept to us. We might feel this anxiety on most new projects, gigs or even events that we do regularly especially right before ‘go time’. The reason for this, is that most times we feel intimidated by the idea of doing whatever it is we are faced with. Intimidation can show up in various ways such as, fear of failure, being negatively judged by our peers, inferiority complex and imposter syndrome. For example, working with or being closely watched by a leader in your space or someone you consider to be a mentor would be daunting for most people. These moments can feel so big and heavy that the anxiety that ensues can be paralysing. Understanding this gives us an insight into the fear that gripped the children of Israel just before crossing the Jordan River (a new challenge) with Joshua (a new leader) instead of Moses. Our scripture of focus today is definitely one to have at the ready when we feel anxious. It is a great reminder that God is ahead of us, with us and will never let us DOWN!  Be encouraged, Be strong, Make your Boast in the Lord (Psalm 20:7 NLT), we will NOT FAIL!

A: Every time you feel a bout of performance anxiety coming up, counter it with this scripture (Deut 31:6) and say it loudly to yourself.

P: Lord thank you for always having my back even when I don’t trust you like I should. Knowing you are with me makes me confident to face any situation.
